Trick to keep avocados fresh for 6 months

No more browned avocados! You will not have to throw away the amazing, expensive avocados as you can keep them fresh for long. Read on to know about storing avocados for at least 6 months.

It is always hard to throw away the pricey food. Everyone has experienced the dreaded brown avocado. It may be half an avocado which you attempted to store in your refrigerator for your next meal or from cutting one open that’s been sitting on your counter for longer than it should have.

There’s a simple trick that lets you keep avocados edible and fresh from Valentine’s Day till August, and it’s as straightforward as throwing them in the freezer.

Super trick to keep avocados fresh for 6 months

If the avocado is ripe and you wish to keep it away to make guac at your party next week or in six months, follow the procedure:

  • Start by cleaning the fruit while its skin is still on.
  • Cut it in half, peel the skin off, and wrap the halves separately in plastic wrap or aluminum foil.
  • Pop it and toss it in the freezer. Be sure to write the date, so you don’t forget about it!

Even if you have pureed your avocados, you could still store them in the freezer. Follow the steps:

  • Juice some lemon on it.
  • Keep it in a bag or airtight container for storage.
  • Place the container in the freezer.

There is a little bit of a drawback to storing avocados for such a long time. The storage does not come with all fairy lights on; one of them happens to be fused. Once you take them, they won’t be as firm as when you first purchased them. Therefore, you won’t be able to add them to your sandwich or to cut it into slices to snack on, but you can still mash it up for guacamole or for a dressing sauce or spread.

Do you know the filthy origin of this term avocado?

Nahua people from Mexico and Central America found the Avocados. Back then, the fruit was called āhuacatl; the word originated from the Nahuatl dialect. It also means Testicles. The scholars chose the name in accordance with the shape of the fruit. Later, the Spanish conquistadors came and changed the name to aguacate. While the fruit was imported from the United States, it was a tough sell as the name of the fruit was hard to pronounce. Marketers of the fruit used the name ‘avogato pear’ or ‘alligator pear’ owing to its shape. Finally, the name was settled to avocado.

Powerhouse benefits of avocados

No matter avocados have a terrible reputation for being fatty, but these fats are healthy as the flesh of the avocado is filled with vitamins and minerals.

It helps to lower cholesterol, reduce the risk of heart disease, lowers cancer risk, keeps the blood sugar steady. Aside from having all these disease prevention properties, avocado helps maintain hair health, improve digestive health, and betters the cognitive function.

Take away

Avocado has a story behind its name. It has many qualities to keep you healthy. All you have to do is, learn how to store them right and eat this pricey fruit to stay healthy.
