Tips for traveling with just hand luggage

Packing light, even for experienced travelers, can be rather tough. With all the wondrous daily amenities that we’re accustomed to, it’s hard not to overpack for a trip nowadays. But, traveling light with a piece of hand luggage only can be beneficial for you in a myriad of ways.

For one, it makes you travel faster since it lightens your load and reduces the strain on your body. Moreover, it reduces the odds of losing a whole heap of stuff.

Need a bit of advice on how to travel light with just a piece of hand luggage? Then, spend a moment reading these tips.

Find the right travel bag

The first and most important thing you have to do is to pick a travel bag that fits the hand baggage specification. For a safe and sure-fire bet, go for the smallest hand luggage available. Remember, dimension requirements vary from one airline to another, so it’s best to go small.

You don’t need to worry a bit, though, since luggage restrictions from all airlines are pretty similar. Just don’t forget to check out the specifications and hand luggage requirements online.

And, if you don’t have a travel bag that fits their specifications and requirements, buy a new one or borrow from someone who owns something like it.

Don’t pack your whole closet

It can be quite tempting to pack all your favorite clothes and items in one bag. But, the truth is, you don’t have to stuff them all in your small bag. Just carry the light ones as well as those that can be put together with one another. And, don’t worry about not looking like a supermodel or a celebrity either. When you’re traveling, nobody really cares what you look like.

To make travel packing efficiently, follow the “rule of three”. In this concept, you’ll need a pair to wear, another pair for washing and one for drying. It’s a simple yet efficient rotation that will give you enough clothes to wear even if you’re on the road for a couple of weeks.

Also, roll all your clothes before stuffing them to your bag. Not only does it help prevent creases, but it also consumes less space on your hand luggage.

Only pack the essentials and necessities

There’s no need to carry a conditioner, shaving cream, shampoo and soap when traveling. Leave them at home, so that you can save space as well as avoid possible luggage fees.

You can buy them when you arrive at your destination, anyway. Plus, it saves you from the hassle of going through the time-consuming airport security.

Everyone needs a little entertainment when traveling. And, thankfully, you don’t have to bring a heap of paperbacks, magazines or even a laptop to keep yourself entertained for your trip. With your smartphone, you can download movies, eBooks and TV shows with ease before your trip.

La Conquista (the Conquest) is a traditional Mexican dance that, as the name suggests, narrates the story of the Spanish conquest. Masked dancers play all the key historical players, from the conquistador Hernán Cortés and La Malinche, a Nahua woman who acted as his interpreter and adviser, to the Aztec ruler Moctezuma. The dance depicts the death of the latter at the hands of the former. It’s particularly popular in the western states of Michoacán and Jalisco, and although it’s not an indigenous dance, the tragic story it depicts is vital in terms of Mexican history, including the story of those who were here before the European arrival.

Trivia: The Mayans were strong believers and followers of astronomy. This is quite evident in how and why they built their monuments. At Chichen Itza, you can see a round-shaped observatory, the El Caracol, which was specifically used to gauge the positions of planets and the sun.
